2010-04-19 Reads

       Introduction

LM-2F is a high-reliable launch vehicle developed on the basis of LM-2E according to manned-space mission requirements. It is the longest launch vehicle with heaviest lift-off mass in , comprising 4 boosters, 1st stage, 2nd stage, fairing and escape tower. LM-2F consists of 10 subsystems, including rocket structure, control system, propulsion device, fault detection and processing system, escape system, telemetry system, tracking and safety system, propellant utilization system, additional system and ground equipment. Taking satellite launch into account, LM-2F retains the interface and installation location for payload’s attitude adjustment and orientation system, and adds fault detection and processing system and escape system to ensure crew safety, which enables the crew module to escape from the faulty rocket in case of contingency during liftoff.

At 6:30 on November 20, 1999, ’s first experimental manned spacecraft Shenzhou was launched by LM-2F in Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (JSLC). And at 3:41 on November 21, Shenzhou spacecraft returned to Earth and landed on Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region after circling the Earth 14 rounds and completed all the experiments. This flight is an important milestone in ’s aerospace history, marking a major process during the development of China’s manned space technology.

LM-2F’s successful launch of Shenzhou spacecraft makes historic   contribution for ’s human space flight.
